Alliant Health Solutions is offering training on Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). Mental Health First Aid is the help offered to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate treatment and support are received or until the crisis resolves. Mental Health First Aid has a strong evidence base and is offered in the form of an interactive 8-hour course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders including depression and anxiety and psychotic disorders. It introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. Those who take the 8-hour course to certify as Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. Participants must complete all 8 hours of training in order to receive certification as a Mental Health First Aider.
