Project LAUNCH Georgia hosts
Let’s READ Muscogee!
In honor of Read Across America Day, which is Thursday, March 2nd, Project LAUNCH Georgia is hosting a literacy event for 23 child serving institutions. In cooperation with the Get Georgia Reading Campaign, Talk With Me Baby and the Columbus Public Library, the National Education Association (NEA) calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss.
Each child will receive an age appropriate book: “Talk with Me Baby” for infants and toddlers, and children ages three to eight will receive Kaplan Books, which specialize in social/emotional topics.
Communityvolunteers are set to participate by reading to children at one of several locations, including Fort Benning day care centers, Great Start Georgia-Healthy Families & Parents as Teachers, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, the Pre-K Center (Muscogee County School District), YMCA, Sky Clubhouse, Early Head Start/Head Start, the Community Center, and Easter Seals West Georgia.
Employees from Midtown Medical, Babies Can’t Wait, Columbus Health Department Nursing Division, Columbus Pediatric Association, Valley Healthcare System, the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, and New Horizons Behavioral Health are on board to assist with the event.
Project LAUNCH Georgia providesGeorgia’s children, from birth to age eight, access to screening, assessment and referrals for appropriate services to meet their social and emotional needs.
